TV & Plasma

What is a Plasma screen?
A plasma screen is a flat panel display which has become the industry standard to display video and graphics. The great thing about plasma technology is the fact it’s versatile and can be installed just about anywhere thanks to its thin depth and lightweight construction.

People think plasma screens were a 90’s invention but the truth is that the technology was first developed in the 1960,s by the University of Illinois. The early plasma screens could only display basic colour block information but became the basis of what we know today as being a plasma screen. In 1983 IBM started to develop plasma screen technology to build computer displays for industrial computer use and by late 1987 they had already set up a second company to investigate and build plasma technology.
In 1992 Japanese company Fujitsu launched the world’s first full colour plasma which was a massive 21 inch in size. The screen the company developed was based on the same platform as the earlier university of Illinois

By 2000 plasma technology was common place but screens cost anything form £5000 upwards. Thankfully today we are able to offer far larger screens at a fraction of the cost thanks to mass production and improved reliability.
